Swiss Federal Government Increases Education Budget to Strengthen Innovation and Global Competitiveness

Bern, June 2025 — In a strategic move to sustain its global leadership in education and innovation, the Swiss Federal Council has approved an increased education budget for the 2025–2028 period. The new plan includes substantial investments in teacher training, digital transformation in classrooms, and expanded access to vocational and lifelong learning programs.

This budgetary boost aligns with Switzerland’s long-standing commitment to educational excellence. A significant portion will be dedicated to enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) teaching capacity and infrastructure in secondary and tertiary education. Moreover, new funding channels are being developed to support international student integration and multilingual education projects across all cantons.

The emphasis on lifelong learning and flexible educational pathways is expected to further close the gap between academic and vocational tracks, offering more personalized options for both Swiss and foreign learners. The new policy framework also reinforces the country’s ambitions in sustainability education, aligning with global climate and innovation agendas.
